British & European Motoring Day 2006

Home Up

Grey skies and steady rain meant traditional British weather marked the return of the AOMC’s annual British & European Display to Flemington racecourse. Nevertheless there was a brave display of Singers and the need to huddle together inside the drip line of the marquee made for a convivial lunch. Although the weather kept both spectators and drivers (of less hardy marques) away, the venue was considered excellent and the organisation of the day by the AOMC was highly professional. Here’s hoping for fine weather next year.

Full marks to all those who braved the truly dreadful conditions in their prized possessions, especially Merv Carson whose special has about as much weather protection as a ride-on mower. This was Merv’s first club outing in his beautifully constructed special which can be seen on the cover and in the middle photo on left, next to John Haywood’s Junior and Mark Leech’s LM.

The display included:

• Gazelle - Neville & Anita Elkington

• Junior – John & Jenny Haywood

• 4A Special — Merv Carson

• Le Mans—Mark & Jo Leech

• Series III Gazelle—Keith & Bev Upton

• Le Mans—Trevor & Pauline Leech

• Hunter— Norm & Barb McClure

• 4A Roadster - Peter & Lorraine Lester
